2011 YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
This is the third year the Iowa Narcotics Officers Association has provide a scholarship opportunity for one female high school senior and one male high school senior.
Each selected recipient is awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the beginning of the second semester, providing they are currently enrolled and have successfully passed the first semester.
This year the scholarship committee comprised of Board Volunteer Melissa Stock, Board Volunteer Kevin Marshall and Treasurer Ardyth Orr, awarded $1,000
To: a high school senior from Region #6 Tipton, Iowa. Christine McGuinty will attend the University of Northern Iowa, and plans to study Speech Pathology.
Christine has been involved in Student Council, Dance Squad, Cheerleading, Choir, Cross County, National Honor Society, National Council on Youth Leadership, Silver Chord Gradation Honors, FCCLA , Peer Mentoring, and an Elementary Aid while still maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
Christine stated in her application she believes drugs are becoming an increasing problem for adults and teenagers. Christine said drug use leads to a life of health problems and affects not only them, but their loved ones for this reason and many more she feels drugs should not be legalized.
Christine’s teacher, her counselor and a SAC with the DCI all agree, Christine is dependable young lady who treats other with respect and is a leader among her peers and community.
Christine is the daughter of Tom and Sue McGuinty. Unfortunately Christine and her family were not able to attend our banquet.
To: a high school senior from Region #2 Mason City, Iowa Brock Stoeffler will attend Iowa State University and plans to study architecture.
Nicholas participated in Baseball, Golf, Track and receive an all academic award for each year in each sport, while still maintaining a 3.55 GPA.
Nichols stated in his application he believes drugs should not be legalized, because more people would be using drugs and more people would be selling drugs because there would not be threat of being arrested.
Brock’s teacher, his coach and an Iowa Sheriff all agree, Brock is dependable young man who has high moral standards, is respectful to others and is very motivated to succeed.
Brock is the son of Shad and Amy Stoeffler. Unfortunately Nicholas and his family were not able to attend our banquet. |

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
This Youth scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Narcotics Officers Association, created in 2008 is a way to show our dedication to Iowa’s youth, as well as, the future of our counties, state and nation.
To be eligible; the student must (1) be a resident of the state of Iowa; (2) enrolled in a college as a full time freshman in the fall of 2013; (3) request a reference from a teacher and community leader (not parent) (4) request a reference from a current member in good standing of at least two (2) years of continuous active membership to INOA, and (5) write an essay of a maximum of 300 words on why or why not drugs should be legalized. All five (5) sections must be received before the March 9, 2012 deadline to be considered.
An appointed committee will select two students, each to receive a $1,000 Scholarship. The scholarship will be paid to the college or your choice, mid-January 2013, after a successful first semester.
Completed Application packets are due Tuesday, March 9, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted.
